چکیده

High nitrogen fertiliser applications are very common in many densely populated areas as in the North China Plain (NCP). A still growing population and an ongoing economic progress enforce that process. Remote sensing methods can help to optimize the N-management for diagnosing crop N status on a field and regional level. For that purpose, spectral and agronomic data were collected during the vegetation period of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in 2006 and in 2007 in the study area of Huimin County. In a post-processing step, a hyperspectral and agronomic data library was established which enables the analysis of spectra in dependence of agronomic data. The investigated parameters include biomass, N-uptake, LAI (Leaf Area Index), plant height and others. Finally, a model was developed which could be applied for extrapolation of the regional knowledge by using hyperspectral air or satellite borne remote sensing data. This paper shows that the collection and postprocessing of spectral and agronomic data of winter wheat in combination with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and RS (Remote Sensing) analysis help to identify over-fertilised and undersupplied managements for different phenological stages from shooting to heading. * Corresponding author.

Nitrogen Status Estimation of Winter Wheat by Using an IKONOS Satellite Image in the North China Plain

The objective of this study was to determine relationship between high resolution satellite image and wheat N status, and develop a methodology to predict wheat N status in the farmers’ fields. Field experiment with 5 different N rates was conducted in Huimin County in the North China Plain, and farmers’ fields in 3 separated sites were selected as validation plots. The IKONOS image covering al...

Characteristics of water consumption in water-saving winter wheat and effects on the utilization of subsequent summer rainfall in the North China Plain

Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grows in dry season but summer maize (Zea mays L.) coincides with rainfall in the North China Plain (NCP). Increasing rainfall use efficiency and harmonizing its utilization between the two species is an effective way to mitigate impact on groundwater deriving from wheat irrigation. One to four times water supply (W1, to W4) were employed in wheat, three wate...

Effects of sowing time and rate on crop growth and radiation use efficiency of winter wheat in the North China Plain

Crop depends on its canopy to intercept solar radiation to drive both assimilation and water, nutrient absorption for its growth. Field experiments, involving three sowing time and three sowing rate, were conducted at Luancheng Station to investigate the effects of canopy size and development on crop growth and radiation use efficiency (RUE) of winter wheat during 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 gr...

Impact of spatial-temporal variations of climatic variables on summer maize yield in North China Plain

Summer maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the dominant crops in the North China Plain (NCP). Its growth is greatly influenced by the spatial-temporal variation of climatic variables, especially solar radiation, temperature and rainfall. The WOFOST (version 7.1) model was applied to evaluate the impact of climatic variability on summer maize yields using historical meteorological data from 1961 to 20...

Water Leakage and Nitrate Leaching Characteristics in the Winter Wheat–Summer Maize Rotation System in the North China Plain under Different Irrigation and Fertilization Management Practices

Field experiments were carried out in Huantai County from 2006 to 2008 to evaluate the effects of different nitrogen (N) fertilization and irrigation management practices on water leakage and nitrate leaching in the dominant wheat–maize rotation system in the North China Plain (NCP). Two N fertilization (NF1, the traditional one; NF2, fertilization based on soil testing) and two irrigation (IR1...
